In that interview, we merely scratched the surface of Deepti’s world of wonders. This time we wanted to get a step by step look at her creative process when it comes to illustrating a children’s book. Following the unexpected death of her husband Walter Pyle (brother to her teacher, Howard Pyle), Wilmington resident Ellen B.
Pyle supported her family with dozens of acclaimed cover illustrations for the Saturday Evening Post. She receives the first overview of her career in this exhibition of approximately 50 works. In a picture book illustration, however, I want to create a juicier picture world. Using paper collages, I can construct multi-level illustrations.
The technique is basically the same, but in addition to creating surfaces with a pen or a brush, I edit the paper cuttings I have photographed.
